Pane Gioiello

Sardinian ceremonial bread, shaped by hand like lacework.

In Sardinia, bread is more than nourishment: for great occasions it becomes ornament, gift, a sign of celebration. Pane gioiello — “jewel bread” — comes from this tradition: ceremonial loaves shaped by hand, carved and braided like little embroideries of dough.

At the Butega we make them the old way: a simple dough of semola, water, and sourdough, and then the patience of fingers that cut, curl, and compose the patterns. Each loaf is different, made for weddings, christenings, anniversaries, or for anyone who wants to bring something unique to the table.

We make pane gioiello to order, agreeing together on shape, size, and occasion. Write to us a few weeks ahead: time is needed for the rising and, above all, for the care.
